Welcome to Casa Melendez Puerto Rico

Casa Melendez was named after Doctora Concha Meléndez-Ramírez,  the mother of Puerto Rican literature.  Her influence , in particular the legacy of the Generación del Treinta, (a 1930s middle-class creole literary movement) shaped Puerto Rico’s 20th-century national cultural identity.

Her original home stands today outside of Old San Juan.  Today it is a library and museum that hosts literary workshops and readings in an attempt to preserve the island’s literary traditions.  Read more about her history here.
